Louis St. Laurent was a Canadian politician and lawyer. A member of the Liberal Party, he served as Prime Minister of Canada from November 15, 1948 to June 21, 1957.
Prime Minister St. Laurent was the son of Mary Anne (Broderick) and Jean-Baptiste-Moise St-Laurent. His father was French-Canadian. His mother was Irish, born in Poppy Hill, Galloway, Ireland. As such, Prime Minister St. Laurent was the first Canadian Prime Minister of significant Irish Catholic ancestry.
Prime Minister St. Laurent’s paternal grandparents were Louis St-Laurent (the son of Joseph St-Laurent and Angelique Houle) and Marie-Louise Parent (the daughter of Joseph Parent and Marie-Reine Crepeau).
Prime Minister St. Laurent’s maternal grandparents were Stephen Broderick and Bridget Tully.
