Connor Bedard is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. A centre, he plays for the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected first in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. He has won the Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy as the Western Hockey League (WHL)’s top rookie player, the Bob Clarke Trophy as the WHL’s leading scorer, and the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy as the WHL’s most valuable player. He has won championships with the Canadian national under-18 team and the Canadian national junior team, and the first IIHF Male Player of the Year award.

His great-great-uncle was professional ice hockey player, defenseman Jim Bedard (James Leo Bedard).

His surname is French.

Connor’s paternal grandfather was Garth Frederick Bedard (the son of Joseph Désire “Joe” Bédard and Margaret Friesen). Garth was born in British Columbia. Margaret was born in Saskatchewan, the daughter of Ernest Friesen and Susanna Harder.

Connor’s paternal grandmother is Lynn Estelle McDonnell (the daughter of Alfred Thomas McDonnell and Annie Mildred McKinnon). Annie was the daughter of Janet Ethel Paul.
