Pendleton’s paternal grandfather was Harold J Johnston, the son of John Henry Johnston and Thressa Catherine McCarthy. Harold was born in Gagetown, Michigan. John was the son of Canadian parents, William Johnston, whose parents were Scottish, and Mary Cecelia Mosack, whose parents were of German (including Alsatian) descent.
