Sir George Martin was an English record producer, arranger, composer, conductor, and musician. He is best known for his work with the Beatles and was commonly referred to as the “fifth Beatle” because of his extensive involvement. During his career he produced 30 number-one hit singles in the United Kingdom and 23 number-one hits in the United States, and won six Grammy Awards.
He was the son of Henry (“Harry”) Martin a carpenter and Bertha Beatrice (nee Simpson) Martin. He was raised in Highbury, London, England. He has four children and was married twice.
