Yeardley Smith is an American actress, voice actress, writer, comedian, and painter. She voices Lisa Simpson on the series The Simpsons.
Yeardley was born in Paris, France, to American parents, Martha (Mayor) and Joseph “Joe” Yeardley Smith. Joseph was born in Brooklyn, New York, and worked as a journalist and the official editor of The Washington Post. Martha was a paper conservator at the Smithsonian Institution.
Yeardley’s paternal grandparents were Joseph Hopkinson Smith and Mary E. Sullivan.
Yeardley’s maternal grandparents were A. Hyatt Mayor (Alpheus Hyatt Mayor, the son of Alfred Goldsborough Mayor and Harriett Randolph Hyatt) and Mary Virginia Sluder (the daughter of Greenfield Sluder and Ella A. Cochran). Yeardley’s grandfather A. Hyatt Mayor was a prominent art historian. Yeardley’s great-grandfather Alfred was a prominent marine biologist, whose own father, Alpheus Hyatt, was a zoologist and paleontologist.
