Alannah Byles is a Canadian singer and songwriter. She is the daughter of Sheilagh (Rankin) and William Douglas “Bill” Byles, a broadcast pioneer, who was inducted into the Canadian Association of Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame in 1997.
Alannah’s paternal grandparents were Percy William Byles (the son of Thomas Job Byles and Agnes Alder) and Mary Blake. Percy was an English immigrant, from Oxford. Thomas was the son of William Byles and Anne Maria Collins. Agnes was the daughter of Richard Alder and Harriet Walker. Alannah’s grandmother Mary was an Irish immigrant, from Dublin.
Alannah’s maternal grandfather was named John Rankin.
