Mary Travers was an American singer, songwriter, and musician. She was a member of the folk group Peter, Paul & Mary, alongside Paul Stookey and Peter Yarrow.
Mary was the daughter of Virginia Mae Coigney (Allin) and Robert John Travers, who were both journalists.
Mary’s paternal grandparents were William Henry Travers (the son of Robert J. Travers and Bridget Delia Purcell) and Mary Elizabeth Hanley (the daughter of John Hanley and Mary Elizabeth Crowley). Mary’s great-grandparents Robert and Bridget were Irish immigrants. It is likely that John and Mary Elizabeth were also of Irish descent.
Mary’s maternal grandparents were John Allin and Maryjoe Copeland.
It does not appear to be publicly known what Mary’s mother’s ancestry is. Her maiden name, “Allin”, can be Irish.
