Prime Minister Gillard’s paternal grandparents were Harold Ralph Gillard (the son of Samuel Edward Gillard and Lucretia Helena Ashman) and Edith Mary Badman (the daughter of William Badman and Frances “Fanny” Bennett). Samuel was born in Buttevant, County Cork, Ireland. Lucretia was Welsh. William was the son of Benjamin Badman and Eliza Gunningham. Eliza might have had some Scottish ancestry, through her surname “Gunningham”.
