Cyril served in the Royal Air Force during World War II, and was the son of Abraham Hawkyard and Florence Minnie Eaves. Edna was the daughter of Francis James Green, whose paternal grandmother, Frances Brough, was Scottish, and of Marian Anderson Graham, whose father, Robert Graham was born in New York, United States, to Scottish parents, and whose maternal grandmother, Maria Waters, was an Irish immigrant.
