Campbell is the son of actors Colleen Dewhurst (born Colleen Rose Dewhurst) and George C. Scott (born George Campbell Scott).
Campbell’s father had English, Irish, Scottish, and German (with roots in Rhineland-Palatinate) ancestry. Campbell’s mother, who was born in Canada, was of English, Irish, and Danish descent.
