Denis Hayes is an American environmental activist and proponent of solar power. He is known for being the coordinator for the first Earth Day in 1970. He is the son of Antoinette S. and Archibald John “Archie” Hayes. He is married to Gail Boyer.
Denis’s paternal grandparents were Thomas F. Hayes (the son of William Hayes and Ann Egan) and Mary Bridget Fitzgerald (the daughter of Edmund Fitzgerald and Ellen Sorrell). All of Denis’s paternal great-grandparents were Irish immigrants.
